Chief of Army Staff, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, asked Bangladeshi peacekeepers in South Sudan to work professionally and relentlessly to uphold the country's reputation on foreign soil.

He spoke such words of encouragement in visiting the Bangladesh contingent of the UN peacekeeping mission in Juba, capital of South Sudan, says a press release.

On Saturday, the army chief visited the Bangladesh Engineer Construction Company and the Bangladesh Regional Protection Force in Juba. During the visit, the contingent commanders briefed him about the overall situation in the mission area and the work of Bangladeshi peacekeepers there.

He took part in a views-exchange meeting with all the Bangladeshi peacekeepers and congratulated everyone for their good work and reputation in South Sudan despite facing hundreds of adversities.

Shafiuddin also visited the headquarters of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Juba. During his visit to the UNMISS force headquarters, he was briefed about various aspects of the UN mission in South Sudan by Acting Force Commander, Major General Main Ullah Chowdhury, with military staff officers present from other countries.

After the briefing, he toured the force headquarters and exchanged greetings with military staff officers from various countries.

On Saturday evening, the army chief visited the Contingent Force Maritime Unit of the Bangladesh Navy and exchanged greetings with them.

On Sunday, Shafiuddin went to Wau, a city in northwestern South Sudan on the western bank of the Jur River, to visit the Bangladesh Infantry Battalion stationed there. He took part in a darbar meeting attended by contingent officials of all ranks.

He later inaugurated the Bangladesh-South Sudan Friendship Youth Club developed by the Bangladesh Battalion. The club has been established with the objective of training local youths into skilled manpower.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Culture and Youth Sports Minister of South Sudan, Md Ali Gani, Director General of Sports, Gabriel Susan, Director of Sports of the Club Robert, and senior officials of the Bangladesh Army.

Sam Korutaro Muhumure, head of the United Nations Mission for South Sudan's Field Office in Wau, met with the army chief on the same day. At the meeting, Muhumure highly praised the work of the Bangladesh Contingent deployed there, and discussed various mission issues.
