Pro-AL panel sweeps Dhaka University Teachers Association polls

The Pro-Awami League Blue Panel teachers Monday gained landslide victory in the Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) election.

The Blue Panel bagged 14 posts out of the 15-member executive committee while its rival pro-BNP White Panel got Vice-President post of the committee.

Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal of Department of Disaster Science and Management won the president post from Blue Panel, defeating Professor Dr Laila Noor Islam of White Panel. Dr ASM Maksud bagged 933 votes while his rival Dr Laila Noor got 438 votes.

Additionally, Professor Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan of Food and Nutrition Sciences Institute won the general secretary post from blue panel defeating Professor Md Hasanuzzaman of White Panel.  Professor Nizamul Haque got 729 votes while Md Hasanuzzaman bagged 643 votes. 

Professor Lutfar Rahman of Department of Statistics won the Vice-President post in the executive committee of DUTA from the pro-BNP White Panel.

Other office bearers are: Dr Mohammad Abdul Moin of Organisation Strategy and Leadership Department and Dr ZM Parvez Sajjad of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering were elected treasurer and joint-secretary respectively. 

Professor KM Saiful Islam Khan of Persian Language and Literature Department, Dr Professor Jakia Parvin of Soil, Water and Environment Department, Professor Dr Zinat Huda of Sociology Department, Professor Nisar Ali of Printing and Publications, Professor Momotaz Uddin Ahmed of Accounting and Information System Department, Professor Aftab Uddin Sheikh of Chemistry Department, Professor Amzad Ali of History Department, Professor Ziaur Rahman of Criminology Department, Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of Department of Banking and Insurance Department and Professor Soumitra Sekhar Dey have been elected as executive members of the committee. 

The Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr Harun-or-Rashind announced the result of the election in the afternoon.

"The election was held in a peaceful manner and all panels accepted the results," Professor Dr Harun-or-Rashind said. 

"Blue panel and pro-BNP-Jamaat white panel contested in the election," he added.

A total of 1434 voters out of 2011 cast their votes from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Dhaka University Teachers' Club. 

Last year, the pro-Awami League panel bagged all the posts of the 15-member committee of Dhaka University Teachers' Association.
