Director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury's "The Rickshaw Girl" is set to be screened at the 44th Mill Valley Film Festival.

The director made the announcement through a Facebook post from his profile on Tuesday morning.

Based on the book "Rickshaw Girl" penned by Mitali Perkins, the movie follows the story of Naima - a free-spirited daughter of a rickshaw puller with a passion for painting; who tries to support her family. The character was played by Novera Rahman.

But Naima's passion for drawing colorful Alpana (motif) does prove financially rewarding. Eventually, she disguises herself as a boy to become a rickshaw puller in a big city, while her love for painting still persists.

The movie stars an ensemble cast that includes Naresh Bhuiyan, Allen Shubhro Gomes, Momena Chowdhury, and Champa among others.

Each year, Mill Valley Film Festival welcomes more than 200 filmmakers, representing over 50 countries. Screening sections include World Cinema, US Cinema, Valley of the Docs, Children's FilmFest, a daily shorts programme, Active Cinema and the festival's activist films initiative.

The in-person screenings of the films will take place at the CinéArts Sequoia in Mill Valley and Christopher B Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael. The virtual screening of films will be accessible through the Cafilm streaming room.
