The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has published names of 10,789 Razakars who collaborated with the Pakistani occupation forces during the 1971 Liberation War and committed crimes against humanity.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque unveiled the list today.

The full list of the Razakars will be made available on the ministry's website https://molwa.gov.bd/.

The final list of the freedom fighters will be published on March 26 next, the minister added.

In 1971, Pakistan's only mentionable political friend in then East Pakistan was Jamaat-e-Islami, which vowed to lend all-out support to Pakistan. But Jamaat was a despicable organisation despised by the people.

So, Pakistan needed a local armed force for guiding it through the unknown terrain and fight a proxy war. It is then that Pakistan thought of raising an auxiliary force called the Razakars, which ultimately played a vital role in the killings, lootings and raping of the Bangalis during Bangladesh's Liberation War.
