EWU IFC organises ‘The FinTech Week 2021’

East West University Investment and Finance Club has completed five years of its operations. On the occasion of EWU IFC's 5th year completion, 'The FinTech Week - A Series of Learning Festival for Finance and Technology Enthusiasts' was launched for the university students and young professionals of Bangladesh collaborating with 10+ public, private and national universities and youth platforms from 3 to 5 August.

The FinTech Week 2021 was a 3-day long event divided into 9 consecutive sessions in diversified fields of FinTech where each day included three sessions covered by the FinTech industry experts. 200+ young enthusiasts registered for the event and the participants got certificates for participating in the knowledge-sharing virtual seminar.

The program started with the Opening Ceremony held on August 3, 2021. The Special Guest of the Opening Ceremony of 'The FinTech Week 2021' was Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Professor of Finance, Department of Business Administration, East West University. Leo Vashkor Dewri and Fatema-Tuz-Johora, the Moderators of East West University Investment and Finance Club were present as the Guest of Honor for the event. The very first session 'Future of Digital Payments' was conducted by Mr. Masrur Chowdhury, Executive Vice President, Head of Department, Government Partnership & Business Sales, bKash Limited. The second Session of 'FinTech: The Growing Digital Momentum' was conducted by Mr. Nur E Azam Shakil, Manager, Product Pricing and App Business, USB FinTech, United Commercial Bank Limited. And lastly, Mr. Ishtiaq Hasnat Chowdhury, Vice President and Manager, Business Risk and Control Management, Commercial Banking, Leading Multinational Bank conducted the session by presenting insights on "How FinTech is Shaping the Future of Banking Industry".

The topic for the first session of the second day was 'Future of FinTech Startup in the Emerging Market of Bangladesh'. The speaker for the session was Mr. Sumit Podder, Head of Structure Finance, Bangladesh Finance. He conversed thoroughly about the journey of an entrepreneur in the startup world and the future of Fintech market. The next session Topic 'Block chain - The Coming Revolution' was covered by two International Resource Persons. The first International Resource Person was Mr. Saundarya Saurabh, Blockchain Developer, Tech Mahindra- India, Blockchain Trainer & Consultant Intellipaat, International Business Machines (IBM). The second International Resource Person for the session was Mr. Md. Ashraful Kabir, Real Estate Finance Specialist, CIBC Bank Canada, FinTech & Edtech Consultant, Servio Canada Ltd., Founder and Chairman, Bizstring tech. The 7th session of the FinTech week on 'Digital Transformation' was conducted by Mr. Sarwar Alam Khan, Senior Manager, B2B Product and Marketing, Banglalink. He shed light on the basic concepts of digital transformation and the emerging FinTech industry. Mr. Fahim Talukder, Tech Research Specialist, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) conducted the next topic "Data Analytics - Creating A Strong Analytics Culture". The last and final session of The FinTech Week 2021 on 'Skills required for building Career in FinTech Industry' was conducted by Mrs. Dilruba Hussain, Capacity Building Consultant, BIPIC project, funded by JICA, Assigned to Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Prime Minister's Office.

This national series webinar event brought opportunities for the students to gain substantial experience, analyze and evaluate outcomes and uncover personal aptitude about the growing FinTech market in Bangladesh. East West University Investment and Finance Club intend to continue their work on covering emerging sectors of the Financial Technology Industry providing insights from expert professionals and investors for the young finance and technology enthusiasts.
