Brac Int’l minimising risk to staff in Afghanistan

Brac is ensuring the safety and security of its staff in Afghanistan amidst the escalating violence and volatile environment there.

Almost 3000 staff members are engaged with Brac projects in ten provinces of Afghanistan, read a media statement.

Of them, 14 expatriate staff, including 12 Bangladeshis, are being relocated to safe locations outside the country.

Five of them, including three Bangladeshis, are already on home leave outside Afghanistan and have been asked not to return. Another three of the Bangladeshis Brac employees in Aghanistan are currently on their way back home. The remaining six Bangladeshi nationals employed by Brac who are still there, are expected to leave Afghanistan by 22 August.

"Brac International is implementing mitigation measures to minimise the risks to the safety and security of our staff and the communities we serve, which is our highest concern," said Shameran Abed, executive director for Brac International.

Brac International has been working in Afghanistan for more than 19 years, providing underserved communities with services, including education, healthcare, community development, Covid-19 related support, and humanitarian and food security assistance.
