Militant Rakibul Hassan Regan, a death-row convict in the Gulshan Holey Artisan attack case, did not bring the Islamic State (IS) cap from the prison to court, claimed the jail authority on Saturday.

"We are sure that there was no negligence on our side. The convict did not collect the IS cap from the prison," Deputy Inspector General (Prison) Tipu Sultan denied the claim of police. He quoted a prison investigation committee's report.

Regan donned a cap with the logo of the international militant organisation IS on Wednesday when a Dhaka court gave its verdict in the Holey Artisan terror attack case.

To investigate the source of the cap, the prison authority formed a three-member probe committee led by Additional Inspector General of Prisons Colonel Abrar Hossain. The committee is scheduled to submit the report to Inspector General of Prisons AKM Mustafa Kamal Pasha on Sunday.

Earlier, police also formed an investigation committee over the incident. Mahbubul Alam, a joint commissioner of the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, was chief of the committee.

On Friday, Mahbubul Alam told reporters that they came to know during a primary investigation that the cap was brought from the prison. "Regan carried it in his pocket."

Previously, Regan told reporters at the court premises after the verdict that he had brought the IS cap from the jail.

The Anti-Terrorism Tribunal on Wednesday convicted seven accused, including Regan, and sentenced them to death over the gruesome Holey Artisan attack in Dhaka's Gulshan on July 1, 2016.
