President asks chartered accountants to ensure transparency in accounts

President M Abdul Hamid today asked the chartered accountants to play a responsible role in ensuring transparency and accountability of accounts in public and private sectors.

"Most of the South Asian countries have huge potential manpower . . . so the professionals, like you, should play a collective role to give the ongoing development in this region a sustainable look," he said.

The head of the state said this while opening the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) International Conference-2019, organized by Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at a hotel in the city this afternoon.

Referring to the role of chartered accountants to the country's overall advancement, the President said their (CAs) role should be for the betterment of combined interests and welfare not for merely the interest of any individual or institution.

"The volume of Bangladesh economy has enhanced significantly and simultaneously the commerce and trade volume have also expanded in a large scale," he said, adding that the chartered accountants can play a due role in this regard.

Talking on the main theme of the conference "Foreign Direct Investment: Destination Bangladesh", President Hamid said, "Foreign direct investment is very imperative to bolster and sustain the gradual trend of economic development here."

This international conference would help highlight the scope of investments in Bangladesh in front of the foreign investors as there are enormous scopes of foreign investments with sharing common values, culture, heritage and challenges through the occasion, he hoped.

Welcoming the foreign participants in the SAFA Conference, the President also urged them to put united efforts to combat the problems what the South Asian countries are facing jointly.

"Bangladesh is now a safe and suitable destination for direct foreign investment as our government has offered manifold facilities and incentives for the foreign investors," he said.

Abdul Hamid called upon foreign investors to come forward and set their investment destination to Bangladesh, which is trying to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a poverty-free prosperous 'Sonar Bangla'.

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment advisor Salman F Rahman, MP, ICAM president AF FCM Nesaruddin, FCA, SAFA president Dr. Jogon Mohon Rao, keynote speaker and fellow of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Prof Mostafizur Rahman, chairman of SAFA organizing committee Muhammad Forhad Hossain, FCA, secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban and, participants from SAARC countries and international organizations, among others, were present on the occasion.
