The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has issued a notification of cancelling the titles of four self-confessed murderers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

The four – Lt Col Shariful Haque Dalim (Bir Uttam), Lt Col Nur Chowdhury (Bir Bikram), Lt AM Rashed Chowdhury (Bir Pratik), and Nayek Subedar Moslem Uddin Khan (Bir Pratik) – had been sentenced to death by a court for their involvement in assassinating Bangabandhu.

The notification issued Sunday afternoon was signed by Deputy Secretary of the Liberation War affairs ministry Rathindra Nath Dutta.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque said, "These four heinous self-confessed murderers were sentenced to death by a court for their involvement in the murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs on 15 August 1975. Their titles have been revoked because it is a shame for the nation to have these heroic titles of the Liberation War conferred upon them."

The 72nd meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council on 9 February 2021 made the recommendation for cancelling the titles of these four murderers.
