The fire service on Sunday recovered the body of a Dhaka University student from the bathroom of a residential building at Azimpur government staff quarters in the capital.

The deceased, Ishrat Jahan Tushti, was a second-year student of the English department at Dhaka University, reports Somoy News.

Saiful Islam, station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Station in Palashi, said, "The rescue team found the girl unconscious after breaking into the bathroom of a room on the ground floor of building-18 in Azimpur staff colony unit-2 around 7:15 am today."

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors pronounced her dead. The body was later sent to the morgue for autopsy.

Saiful Islam further said that Tushti's roommate called 999 when she realised that the bathroom door has been locked from inside for quite some time while the tap water was still running.

"Initially, we are assuming that she collapsed in the bathroom and died of an illness. The girl reportedly had cold problems," added Saiful Islam.

Shafayet Ahmed, a classmate of the deceased, said, "Tushti used to live in room number 422 of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall. However, since the halls were closed, she was living in a sublet arrangement at one of the government staff quarters in Azimpur.

The 21-year old DU student is the daughter of Altu Mia and hailed from Netrokona's Aatpara upazila.
