Perspective Plan aimed at making Bangladesh a prosperous country: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said the government has taken the Perspective Plan 2021-41 to make Bangladesh a developed country in the South Asian region.

"We want to establish Bangladesh as a developed country by 2041 in South Asia. To achieve the goal, we've taken the 2nd Perspective Plan 2021-41," she said.

The Prime Minister said this while witnessing a PowerPoint presentation on "Bangladesh's 2nd Perspective Plan 2021-2041" formulated to implement the Vision-2041 of the present government.

She said after assuming power in 2009, the Awami League government devised its immediate plan to turn the country into a developed one. "Later, we had formulated the 5th Five-year Plan and implementing it," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said at the same time, the 1st Perspective Plan was also formulated for the 2011-2021 term and the government began working to implement it accordingly. "Bangladesh is marching ahead and it'll move further towards development and prosperity in the days to come," she said.

She said the 20-year perspective plan will be implemented during the next four five-year plan starting in 2021.

Senior Secretary and Member of the Planning Commission Shamsul Alam highlighted key features of the perspective plan through the PowerPoint presentation.

Speaking on the occasion, Planning Minister MA Mannan termed the perspective plan a long-term "dream document".

He hoped that once the perspective plan is implemented, Bangladesh will be established as a developed and prosperous country as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, Prime Minister's advisors HT Imam, Dr Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and Dr Mashiur Rahman were present.
