"The foundation that was laid jointly by late Pierre Trudeau and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman continues to guide us in our relationships," Sheikh Hasina said.

Mentioning that Dhaka and Ottawa enjoy a dynamic relationship in terms of socio-economic issues, trade and investment, defence cooperation and so on, she termed Canada as one of the biggest development partners of Bangladesh.

Canadian government has been contributing to bringing changes to the lives of Bangladesh people through extending cooperation in the areas of health, education and climate change, she said.

"We continue to appreciate your support toward us in ensuring justice in the case of Nur Chowdhury, the self-confessed killer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," she said.

Sheikh Hasina also expressed her gratitude to Trudeau for the role that Canada has been playing to resolve the Rohingya issue, the biggest challenge Bangladesh is facing today.

"We are confident that with you in the office, Bangladesh will continue to receive support and cooperation in bringing a sustainable solution to this protracted crisis," she observed.

At this very joyful moment, Bangladesh Premier said she looks forward to lifting the relation between the two nations to a higher level in the coming days.
