Locals on Thursday besieged the Rupganj office of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, demanding resumption of gas connections that were cut off due to illegal use.
The protesters also vandalized the Titas Gas office when its officials denied to resume the connection. Later, law enforcers rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.
FM Shahed, Officer in-charge of Rupganj Police Station said that local residents besieged the gas distribution office claiming that they were legal consumers of the utility.

"Police brought the situation under control, although no arrests were made over the matter," the cop said.
Earlier, Titas Gas, country's largest natural gas distributor, disconnected 57,000 illegal gas lines this month after carrying out special inspections in different upazilas of Narayanganj and Munshiganj.
Illegal gas connects with outstanding bills for several months were disconnected, Titas officials said.
Uttering the company's tough position against illegal gas users, Titas Gas's Managing Director, Engineer Ali Iqbal Md Nurullah, said that legal action will be taken against the people who vandalized the government property.
"However, we will consider the issue of the legal users if they pay the outstanding bills," he added.
