No plan for residential gas connections now or in future: Energy minister
Responding to queries from at least five lawmakers during a parliamentary session, the minister made it clear
The government has no plans to provide new residential gas connections, either now or in the future, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku said in parliament today (2 April).
Responding to queries from at least five lawmakers during a parliamentary session, the minister made it clear that there is no policy decision to resume household gas connections.
He said the country is facing a persistent gas shortfall as domestic production continues to decline, while total supply, including imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), remains insufficient compared to overall demand.
"As a result, gas shortages are being experienced across the country, affecting distribution in line with demand," he added.
Given the ongoing supply constraints, the government has decided not to expand residential gas connections for the foreseeable future, the minister further added.
