National Professor Brig (Retd) Abdul Malik was honoured by the World Hypertension League with the Excellence Award in the 'Diplomacy and Advocacy for Population Hypertension Risk Reduction' category for his significant contribution in reducing the risk of hypertension (HTN) in Bangladesh. 

This award is the recognition of his role in creating awareness among the people about controlling Hypertension, said a press release.

Abdul Malik, founder and president of the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh, has been working for a long to prevent and control HTN and other risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in Bangladesh.

The National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh is active in raising awareness on hypertension control and other cardiovascular diseases across the country through various ways including organizing awareness seminars, free hypertension camps, leaflets, posters, banners, scientific seminars.

At present, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the NCDC Program of the DGHS and the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh are jointly conducting hypertension control programs in 54 upazilas of Sylhet Division, Kishoreganj and Jamalpur district in collaboration with Resolve to Save Lives. There are plans to expand this program to all the upazilas of the country in phases.
