Khulna journalist sent to jail under DSA

Abu Taiub, head of NTV's Khulna bureau, who was arrested under the Digital Security Act filed by Khulna City Corporation Mayor, has been sent to jail.

Acting Khulna Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Sumi Ahmed passed the order when he was produced in the virtual court at 10 am on Wednesday.

Khulna Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Alam confirmed the matter. He said, "We would seek remand for questioning him later in the interest of the investigation."

Khulna police arrested him from his house in the Nurnagar area of the city around 10 pm on Tuesday.

Earlier at around 4 pm, Khulna City Mayor and Metropolitan Awami League President Talukder Abdul Khalek filed a case against journalist Abu Taiub under Section 2018/1/25 (2) / 29 / (1) 31 (2) of the Digital Security Act at Khulna Police Station.

Khulna Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Alam confirmed the arrest saying, "Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek filed a case against journalist Abu Taiub under the Digital Security Act around 4 pm on Tuesday for spreading propaganda on Facebook. He has been arrested in the case."

The plaintiff in the case, Khulna City Mayor and Metropolitan Awami League President Talukder Abdul Khalek, said, "For the last two-three days, Abu Taiub has been spreading false news and slander of corruption against me through social media including Facebook. This has severely damaged my long-standing political image and reputation. As a result, I have filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act."
