Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, New Pro Vice Chancellor of IUB

Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan joins as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) effective from April 1, 2021. He has been appointed as the Pro-VC of IUB by the honorable President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the Universities for a 4-year term.

Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan is a Professor and former Chairman at the Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka; Senior Academic Adviser, National Defense College (NDC); Senior Academic Adviser BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD); and Chairman, Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation (Arannayak) Foundation.

Professor Khan pursued higher education and research in the University of Oxford, University of Wales Swansea, and Asian Institute of Technology. His career reflects a rich blend of academic and practicing development management experiences gained in Bangladesh, Thailand and the UK. Besides serving as Bangladesh Country Representative of International Union for Conservation of Nature, some of his other former positions include Senior Programme Coordinator, UNDP-Bangladesh, Forest and Natural Resource Management Specialist at the Asian Development Bank, South Asian Fellow, Queen Elizabeth House, University of Oxford and Distinguished Visiting Researcher of the American University in Cairo.

He prolifically published more than 170 refereed publications including some 45 in Web of Science and Scopus indexed journals on such broad fields as environment, natural resource management, and social & community development. He regularly contributes to high panel government and civil society committees and boards, and acts as resource person and academic adviser to key national military and civil service training institutions.
