Australian FM pledges $10m emergency assistance to Rohingya camp fire victims
This funding is in addition to the over $260 million Australia has provided to the humanitarian response for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh since 2017
Australian Foreign Minister Senator Marise Payne has announced an additional $10 million emergency assistance for the victims of the massive fire at the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar's Balukhali on Monday (22 March), killing at least 11 people with hundreds missing.
This funding is in addition to the over $260 million Australia has provided to the humanitarian response for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh since 2017.
The additional support will be provided through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, the World Food Programme and the United Nations Population Fund, says a press release.

In a press release issued today, containing the announcement and the condolence message of the minister, Senator Marise Payne said, "Australia is committed to sustaining our humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya and host communities in Cox's Bazar."
Praising the Bangladesh government, Rohingya volunteers and the humanitarian agencies, she expressed her country's concern over the impact of the incident on more than 120,000 people and the extensive damage to food distribution centres, health clinics, learning centres and essential facilities.
