HC imposes travel ban on 122 defaulters of People’s Leasing

The High Court (HC) has put an embargo on 122 defaulters of non-banking financial institution People's Leasing and Financial Services Limited (PLFSL) for travelling abroad after they did not appear even after summon order.

A single HC bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order on Monday, Barrister Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz, lawyer of the Bangladesh Bank, told reporters.

On 11 March, the HC asked to match the current addresses of the defaulters, collecting their NID cards. The court said it would order further action against them upon receiving their present address.

On 21 January, the HC summoned 280 defaulters of PLFSL who are defaulted on loans worth Tk5 lakh and above.

On 23-25 February, 158 defaulters appeared in the HC. The rest were asked to appear in court in phases but 122 people did not appear even after the court order.

Lawyer Mezbahur Rahman said the company court asked for a list of borrowers of PLFSL in November last year and a list containing 500 borrowers and companies was submitted to the court on 23 November.
