Al Jazeera report: Court to order on sedition case 23 February

The court has fixed 23 February for disclosing its decision over the sedition case filed against four people on allegation of plotting against Bangladesh through the Al Jazeera report styled "All the Prime Minister's Men."

Asheque Imam, a metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka, fixed the date, said Mashiur Rahman Malek, the plaintiff.

On the day, the court will elucidate its stance whether it will take the case to cognizance or not, he added.

The accused are- Swedish-Bangladeshi journalist Tasneem Khalil, Hungary-based entrepreneur Zulkarnain Saer Khan alias Sami, British journalist David Bergman and Director General (editing council) of Al Jazeera Television Dr Mostefa Souag.

Moshiur Malek, founder and president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the case with the court on Wednesday.

The Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera had broadcast the report on 1 February.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministry in a statement termed the report as "false, defamatory and a politically motivated smear campaign."

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that Bangladesh was preparing to sue Al Jazeera over airing the report with inaccurate information.

Later on Tuesday, the chief of Bangladesh Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed said those who have aired the fabricated report accusing him want to humiliate the army.
