On 5 January, Chawkbazar Police Station Inspector (Operations) and also the investigating officer of the case, Muhammad Delwar Hossain, submitted a report recommending the acquittal of Erfan Selim in the arms case. The investigating officer also recommended his release in the drug case of the same police station.

On 25 October last year, a Navy officer was assaulted by Erfan Selim, near Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after his motorcycle collided with a car owned by the lawmaker.

On 26 October, Lieutenant Wasif Ahmad lodged a case accusing Erfan Selim, his driver and five others of assaulting a government staff member and issuing death threats.

On the same day, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided the house of Erfan's father Haji Selim in Bara Katra of Old Dhaka. At that time, a mobile court of RAB sentenced Erfan Selim to one year imprisonment for possession of drugs. Erfan's bodyguard Md Zahid was sentenced to six months for carrying a walkie-talkie.

Later, on 28 October, RAB-3's DAD Qayyum Islam filed four separate arms and drug cases against Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Zahid at Chawkbazar police station. DB police recently filed a chargesheet against five people, including Erfan Selim, in the case filed against them for beating a naval officer in Kalabagan.
