The High Court has asked Grameen Bank founder Nobel Laurate Dr Muhammad Yunus today to surrender before lower court by November 7 in three cases filed over the termination of employees for creating a trade union.

The bench of justices Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Khondakar Diliruzzaman also asked authorities concerned not to arrest or harass until November 7.

Three former employees who were dismissed by Grameen Communications (established by Dr Yunus) filed cases against the Dr Yunus and two officials of the company on July 3. The court later summoned the three accused on October 8.

Grameen Communication's Managing Director Naznin Sultana and Deputy General Manager Khandaker Abu Abedin surrendered before court and secured bail, but Dr Yunus did not show up.

On October 9, a Dhaka Court issued an arrest warrant against Dr Yunus after he failed to appear before court in response to an earlier summons.

However, on October 14, the High Court stayed the arrest warrant after Dr Yunus's counsel Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud placed a plea seeking stay on the lower court order.
