Chattogram Wasa decides to install prepaid meters
The water supply authority also decided in favour of setting up its own water testing laboratory
The Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority has decided to install prepaid meter system to curb wastage of water.
In this regard, a proposal was approved at the 53rd board meeting of the organisation on Saturday.
The water supply authority in the port city also decided in favour of setting up its own water testing laboratory, board member Mahshin Kazi confirmed The Business Standard.

Mohshin Kazi said, "Various complaints including system loss, unpaid bill, and consumer harassment are common to the water supply authority.
"Many consumers do not pay their bills regularly. Also, there are allegations against some Wasa officials of harassing consumers over billing. Installation of prepaid meters will solve these problem permanently."
Primarily, prepaid meters will be installed in some parts of the city under a pilot project.
The installation of prepaid meters will begin in those areas which have sufficient supply of water, said Chief Revenue Officer at the Chattogram Wasa Mahmudul Haque.
"All the consumers will be brought under the prepaid meter system in a gradual process," he added.
The clients of the Chattogram Wasa also welcomed the decision.
Saidul Islam, a resident of Muradpur area in the port city, told The Business Standard that a plenty of water is wasted in every house.
"People will be more economical in using water, if prepaid meters are installed, he said, "this will reduce the use of water."
The Chattogram Wasa has a total of 72,000 consumers including residential and industrial ones. The organisation supplies consumers with 36 crore litres of water daily against an overall demand of 42 crore litres.
