Beza hands over land to Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd

The Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (Beza) has handed over 30 acres of leased land to Berger Bangladesh Limited, one of the world's leading paint manufacturers based in the United Kingdom.

The handover process was completed on Friday at a ceremony at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar in Chattogram, said a press release from Beza.

Barger is going to set up its third factory in Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (Mirsarai, Feni and Sitakunda Economic Zone). With an investment of around Tk200-250 crore, Berger will set up a large-scale factory here, which the company hopes will be completed in the next five years.

In Mirsarai, Berger will build: a water and solvent based paint plant, an emulsion plant, a resins plant, a central raw material warehouse, new strategic initiatives for future business diversification, and necessary facilities for future export market growth.

Berger's overall work is expected to employ about 300-400 people primarily, which will increase in the future.

An administrative building, warehouse, logistics area, waste management facility, water treatment plant, road, and other necessary facilities will be constructed on the allotted land. The rest of the land will be used for: dormitories, health services, training centers, and greenery

In addition to the use of environment-friendly technologies, the Environmental Management Plan will be adopted to ensure that there is no adverse impact on the environment.

Paban Chowdhury, executive chairman of the Beza and Rupali Chowdhury, managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, along with other senior officials of both the parties, were present at the ceremony.

Paban Chowdhury said Bangladesh has been able to build an investment-friendly healthy environment through the Economic Zone and has set a role model of development for the world.

He mentioned that one of the largest economic zones in South Asia is being built in Mirsarai and this will lead to an unprecedented revolution of industrialisation in the country and increase the living standards of the people as well as meet the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, policy-making to build a green economic zone in the face of climate change will soon be implemented. Online service to the investors has been ensured by establishing a One Stop Service Center, said Paban Chowdhury.

Berger Paints Bangladesh Managing Director Rupali Chowdhury said, "Berger has been working as a trusted brand in the world of colors in Bangladesh. Establishing a factory in Mirsarai is a milestone for Berger and it will continue to work for the development of the environment-friendly paint industry in Bangladesh with the overall support of Beza and guidance of the Prime Minister's Office."

She said the company will start constructing the factory very soon.
