An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, has succumbed to his injuries after opponents stabbed him with sharp weapons in Dewanbazar area on 8 January.

Ashikur Rahman Rohit, 20, died on Friday while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakalia Police Station Nezam Uddin said.

Nezam Uddin said Rohit, a student of Omargani MES College, had a dispute with some youths over putting up anti-drug posters.

On 8 January, a number of miscreants from the opposition chased him and stabbed in the KDS lane area near Bharapukur of the port city in the afternoon, said Nezam.

Rohit's elder brother Zahidur Rahman filed a case against three -- Mohiuddin, Babu and Sabu -- on 9 January at Bakalia police station.

"The accused have been absconding since the incident. We are trying our best to arrest them," the police officer added.
