An activist was shot dead when two rival groups of the ruling Awami League clashed in Chattogram city on Tuesday night. 

Another person sustained bullet injury in the clash that took place in Magpukurpar area of Pathantuli in the port city. 

The deceased was identified as Azgar Ali Babul. The injured - Mahbub - has been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Faruque Ul Haqu said the supporters of AL-nominated candidate Nazrul Islam Bahadur and his contestant Abdul Quader locked into a clash at 8pm. At one stage they started firing leaving two bullet injured with gunshots. 

Police rushed to the spot and were trying to control the situation as of filing this report.
