Two alleged drug dealers were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Satgharia Para area in Teknaf early today.

The deceased were Ziabul Haque Babul, 30, of Kanchapara area and Azim Ullah, 46, of Baharchhara union.

They were charged with several cases including arms and drugs, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station.

The OC said police arrested absconding accused Ziabul Haque from Hinla Bazar area of the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

A police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police of Ukhia Circle Nihad Adnan Tayan conducted a drive at the den of Ziabul at Satgharia Para area to recover yaba and arms on Thursday night.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, other cohorts of Ziabul opened fire on police, forcing them to retaliate. Ziabul and Azim sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight.

Later, they were rushed to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Four other police officials including Nihad Adnan Tayan were also injured during the gunfight.

Police recovered one shutter gun, five pistols, 36 rounds of bullets and 5,000 pieces of yaba from the scene.

Separate cases are being filed in this connection, said the OC
