An alleged drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) at Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar on Saturday night.

The deceased is Jafar Alam, 30, hailed from Nayapara area of the upazila.

On suspicion, when the BGB team challenged them, they tried to leave the place after getting out from the boat. Then BGB chased them and drug traders opened fire on them, prompting BGB to retaliate in self defence, triggering the gunfight, BGB Commander added.

After the gunfight, Jafar was found from the spot. He were taken to Teknaf Hospital where the doctor declared him dead, he said further.

BGB recovered two lakh pieces yaba tablets, one local weapon, one round cartridges. A case will be filed in the matter.
