NRB Commercial (NRBC) Bank Chairman SM Parvez Tamal has been selected as a commercially important person (CIP) for his significant contribution to the country's economy.

Two more directors and one sponsor of the bank were also nominated for the award.

The government has nominated the four individuals as CIPs for 2018, and a gazette notification was published recently in this regard.

The notification said Russia expatriate Parvez Tamal – the bank's sponsor and incumbent chairman – was chosen for the award for sending the highest amount of remittances.

Hailing from Barisal, Tamal completed his post-graduate studies at the Moscow Institute of Statistics and Economics in Russia. He excelled in technology and real estate holdings and his logistics consultancy business in the country.

In 2013, the expatriate established the NRBC Bank. Parvez Tamal has been serving the bank as its chairman since December 2017.

United Kingdom expatriate Mohammad Adnan Imam, a director and chairman of NRBC Bank's executive committee, has been nominated for the award. Adnan is a successful real estate, IT, private equity, clothing, and textiles businessman in London and Dhaka.

The United Arab Emirates expatriate and bank's director Mohammad Oilar Rahman and the bank's sponsor from the same country Mohammad Emadur Rahman have also nominated for the award in the same category.

The duo is among the founders of the famous Al Haramain Group in Dubai.

The expatriate welfare and employment ministry has nominated 38 non-resident Bangladeshis with the commercially important person status for their contributions to the national economy by sending remittances, making investments and importing Bangladeshi goods.

Of them, 30 non-resident Bangladeshis will get the status for sending the highest amount of remittances, seven for importing Bangladeshi goods and one for investing in the country.
