A young man has filed a general diary (GD) at the police station against an elephant that came to the locality in search of food at Chakaria in Cox's Bazar.

Rezaul Karim, 32, son of Manzur Alam, a former veterinarian of Chakriya lodged the GD at Chakaria police station in Cox's Bazar on Friday evening.

Karim's mother Mortuza Begum, 60, was injured in the chase by the wild elephant, and their fences and fields were damaged, the GD said.

After rescuing her, she was taken to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. After initial treatment, the on-duty doctor referred her to Chattogram Medical College, where she is now undergoing treatment.

Cox's Bazar North Forest Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) said. Tahidul Islam said the forest workers were able to return the stray elephant to the forest after a long 8-hour effort.

"It was not immediately clear who was injured or whose property was damaged. However, the forest department arranges compensation if it is possible to present accurate evidence of someone being harmed," he added.
