Govt buying 50,000 tonnes of rice from India
The non-Basmati rice will be imported from Mumbai’s Rika Global Impex Ltd for Tk34.28 per kg, through the Chattogram and Mongla ports
The Bangladesh government will import 50,000 tonnes of parboiled non-Basmati rice from India at a cost of more than Tk171 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Wednesday approved the purchase for the Fiscal Year 2020-21 through international quotations, and Mumbai's Rika Global Impex Ltd will supply the rice for Tk34.28 per kg.
After the committee's 35th meeting, Additional Secretary to the cabinet Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal told journalists, "The parboiled rice will be imported from India through the Chattogram and Mongla ports."

At the meeting – chaired by Law Minister Anisul Huq in absence of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal – the committee also approved the purchase of 25,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser.
The additional Secretary to the cabinet added that Bangladesh will import the fertiliser at a cost of Tk56 crore from the Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company under a government-to-government agreement in the eighth lot.
Moreover, in the 9th lot, the government will import another 25,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser in the current fiscal year. The Basic Industries Corporation of Saudi Arabia will supply the fertiliser for around Tk56 crore under a government-to-government deal.
On 2 December, the committee had approved the purchase of 50,000 tonnes of parboiled rice from the PK Agri Link Private Limited in West Bengal of India.
