Court imposes travel ban on ex-MP Salim Uddin Tarafder, wife over corruption allegations
Salim Uddin Tarafder and his wife allegedly acquired and possessed assets worth Tk1.68 crore beyond their known sources of income through collusion.
A Dhaka court yesterday (27 September) imposed a travel ban on former Naogaon-3 lawmaker Md Salim Uddin Tarafder and his wife Shamima Akter Shirin over allegations of corruption.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya submitted the application seeking the travel ban.
According to the application, Salim Uddin Tarafder and his wife allegedly acquired and possessed assets worth Tk1.68 crore beyond their known sources of income through collusion.
A case was filed against them under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Section 109 of the Penal Code, according to the application.
The application further said the ACC had received information that the accused might leave the country and flee abroad.
If they leave the country, collecting important records related to the case could become difficult and the investigation could be disrupted, it said.
The application therefore sought to prevent the accused from travelling abroad in the interest of a proper investigation into the case.
