Man stabbed during 'mugging' near Kawran Bazar metro, suspect detained
However, police said they have not yet confirmed whether the incident was related to a mugging.
A man was allegedly stabbed during an attempted mugging near the Kawran Bazar metro rail station in Dhaka this afternoon (24 September), but managed to detain the alleged attacker despite being injured.
The suspect, identified as Mazharul Islam Safi, 40, was later handed over to police after being beaten by people who gathered at the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 3pm. Despite sustaining injuries, the victim caught hold of the attacker and prevented him from fleeing.

People nearby then intervened, assaulted the suspect and called police.
A video of the incident has been circulating on social media. It shows a bloodied man with a torn shirt and an apparent stab wound on his back hitting another man. Two or three others are also seen assaulting the man, accusing him of mugging.
However, police said they have not yet confirmed whether the incident was related to a mugging.
Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said the initial information suggested that the stabbing occurred following an argument.
"The person who was beaten is a drug addict. He was kept in police custody after receiving primary treatment," the OC said.
No one has filed a complaint over the incident yet, he added.
