AL govt embezzled Tk7,000cr of teachers’ retirement benefits: Milon
Milon accuses previous government of misappropriating teachers’ retirement funds, calls for collective effort to rebuild economy.
Education Minister Ehsanul Hoque Milon has alleged that the previous Awami League government embezzled Tk7,000 crore from teachers' retirement benefits.
He made the allegation today (11 August) while speaking as the chief guest at a session titled "Rebuilding a Fragile Economy and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals" at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
Milon also alleged that the previous government spent thousands of crores of taka on programmes marking 15 August.
He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was working to address the needs of the people while giving equal priority to sectors including education, health and housing.
"Instead of only criticising, let us all work together," the education minister said, calling on political parties to cooperate in the country's development.
He also highlighted various government initiatives, including the distribution of family cards among citizens.
"Following instructions of the prime minister, I am working day and night to improve the country's education system," Milon said.
State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki and officials from various ministries and educational institutions also spoke at the event.
