However, so far, four people have been arrested in connection with the rape case.

On Sunday night, a gang rape case was filed at Haragach police station against Detective Branch (DB) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raihanul Islam. He was suspended on Monday. The case has also been handed over to the PBI. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (crime) Abu Maruf Hossain confirmed the matter.

According to the locals, ASI Raihanul Islam of Metropolitan DB Police had a love affair with a student from class nine in Moynakuthi Kachutari area of Rangpur metropolis.

The victim's father said that on Sunday morning, Raihanul Islam called his daughter to the house of Aleya Begum, a tenant of Shahidullah Miah, in the Kadarer Pool area. There Raihanul raped his daughter.

Later, Raihan called some other young men and they raped her as well and left her there. After the incident, his daughter fell ill and called him to inform the police.

Later, at around 8.30 pm, the Haragach police rescued the victim from the house and took her to the police station and arrested Aleya Begum and another accomplice Surovi Begum.

Later, the girl's father became the plaintiff and the police filed a rape case accusing some unidentified persons including Raihanul Islam alias Raju and arrested him.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Abu Maruf Hossain said, "The girl had mentioned a policeman named Raihanul Islam Raju in the initial interrogation. However, to confirm whether the Raju is ASI Raihanul of DB police, Raihanul is being questioned in the custody. He has been suspended since allegations were made against him."

Rangpur Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Superintendent of Police SM Zakir Hossain said, "The girl's father had filed a case against the policeman and several others in connection with the rape. The case has been handed over to the PBI for investigation."

"Two more people involved in the incident have been arrested. Legal action will be taken against them. However, an investigation report will be submitted shortly. Those involved in the incident will be arrested," he added.
