High Court directs EC to register Bangladesh People’s League in three months
Party had challenged EC’s rejection of its 2025 application
The High Court yesterday directed the Election Commission (EC) to register the Bangladesh People's League within three months, disposing of a rule issued over the party's registration.
A bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Syed Mohammad Tajrul Hossain passed the order.

Senior lawyer Garib Newaz Mohammad, also the party's chairman, represented the petitioner, while lawyer Md Selim Mia appeared for the EC.
Earlier, party Secretary General Advocate Syed Mahbub Hossain filed a writ petition challenging the EC's refusal to register the party, which was founded in 1976.
According to the petition, the party applied for registration in 2025, but the EC informed it on 2 February that the application had been rejected.
The party then moved the High Court, which issued a rule over the matter before delivering yesterday's order.
