Hridoye Bangabandhu: BB publishes souvenir to mark Mujib Year

The Bangladesh Bank published a souvenir called "Hridoye Bangabandhu" on Sunday as part of observing Mujib Year – the centennial birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The central bank's Governor Fazle Kabir unveiled the souvenir – published as a special edition by the Bangladesh Bank's Mujib Year Celebration Committee – at a ceremony held at the Jahangir Alam Conference Hall.

The Bangladesh Bank's Deputy General Manager Nesar Ahmed Bhuiyan presided over the event. He also serves as the convener of Mujib Year Celebration Committee and president of Bangabandhu Committee.

Speaking with The Business Standard, Nesar said, "The souvenir features write-ups by eminent authors from Bangladesh and India, including former governor of the Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman, former president of India Pranab Mukherjee and many others."

"The souvenir documents Bangabandhu's lineage, and a rare collection of life events from his birth to death. It also features a write-up from an Indian journalist focusing on the diplomatic relationship between the then-Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Bangabandhu," he added.

He further said that the souvenir features "The Historic 7 March Speech of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," and the letters he wrote during his stay at the Bekar Hostel in Kolkata.

The Bangladesh Bank's Deputy Governor SM Moniruzzaman, the Mujib Year Celebration Committee's Joint Secretary Md Hossain Sagor, Member Secretary HM Delwar Hossain and executive directors of the bank were present at the event among many other senior officials.

At the event, the speakers discussed Bangabandhu's life and philosophy documented in the souvenir. They also offered special prayers to mark the birthday of Bangabandhu's youngest child Sheikh Russel.

The Mujib Year theme song was played at the beginning of the event.
