Appellate Division orders disposal of HC rule over Sarwar Alamgir's candidature
Lawyers said that the election results, publication of the gazette, and oath-taking of Sarwar Alamgir will remain stayed until the High Court rule is disposed of.
The Appellate Division has directed the disposal of a High Court rule concerning the validity of the candidature of Sarwar Alamgir, the unofficially elected BNP candidate for the Chattogram-2 constituency in the 13th National Parliament.
Lawyers said that the election results, publication of the gazette, and oath-taking of Sarwar Alamgir will remain stayed until the High Court rule is disposed of.
A five-judge bench of the Appellate Division, headed by the Chief Justice, passed the order today (16 June).

Earlier, the High Court had stayed an Election Commission decision cancelling Sarwar Alamgir's candidature on allegations of loan default and also directed that he be allowed to participate in the election.
Following this, Jamaat candidate Nurul Amin filed a leave to appeal with the Appellate Division.
On 3 February, the Appellate Division granted leave to appeal against the High Court order that reinstated Sarwar Alamgir's candidature, allowing him to contest the election.
However, the court directed that the election results would remain stayed and not be published until the disposal of the appeal.
Sarwar Alamgir later won the election on 12 February, but the results were not published due to the court order.
