Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), two months after serving as the board's chief under an ad hoc committee.
Tamim was first elected as a director from the Dhaka clubs category during the BCB elections held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today (7 June).
He was subsequently chosen as president by the newly elected board directors as he was the sole candidate for the post.
Tamim becomes the 18th president of the BCB and the sixth to hold the position through election. Fahim Sinha was elected vice-president.
A total of 16 candidates contested the election in the Dhaka clubs category, with 12 securing director positions.
Alongside Tamim, the elected directors are Masuduzzaman, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Yasir Abbas, Israfil Khosru, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Shahnian Tanim, Fahim Sinha, Yasir Faisal, Asif Rabbani, Dr Mahbub Shamim and Sakeef Ahmed Salam.
Tamim emerged as the top vote-getter with 73 votes. Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khosru received the second-highest tally with 72 votes each, followed by Masuduzzaman with 70 votes and Yasir Faisal with 68.
The newly formed 25-member BCB board comprises 10 representatives from the divisional and district cricket associations (Category-1), 12 Dhaka club representatives (Category-2), and one representative from Category-3, reports BSS.
