PM expected to visit Malaysia, China this month
The visits are seen as key diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to make his first overseas visit since taking office with a trip to Malaysia on 21-22 June, ahead of a three-day visit to China starting on 23 June.
A senior Foreign ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed to TBS that the planned visit to Malaysia has been agreed in principle, adding, "We are still working with the Malaysian side to finalise the agenda."
The upcoming visits are being viewed as significant diplomatic engagements for the new government as it seeks to strengthen bilateral ties with key regional partners, the official added.
In recent months, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman visited India and China, while Expatriates' Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury and Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin travelled to Malaysia in early April.
Foreign Ministry officials said preparations for both the Malaysia and China visits are progressing, though the detailed agendas have yet to be finalised.
The visits are expected to focus on expanding economic cooperation, attracting investment, enhancing labour migration opportunities and strengthening broader bilateral relations, according to the officials.
