PM meets Ramisa's family at their Pallabi home, pledges swift probe
Earlier today, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that exemplary punishment would be ensured in the shortest possible time in the case.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with the family of Ramisa Akter, an eight-year-old who was brutally raped and killed two days ago, at their home in the capital's Pallabi area tonight (21 May).
Tarique left for the family's residence around 9pm following a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat, reports UNB, citing the Prime Minister's Press Wing.
The press wing said the prime minister spoke with the child's family members, expressed deep condolences to them, and assured them of a prompt and fair investigation into the incident, reports Prothom Alo.

The prime minister was accompanied by multiple members of his cabinet, including Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, and other senior government and police officials.
Earlier today, Salahuddin said that police would submit the charge sheet in the rape and murder case within the shortest possible time after completing the investigation swiftly.
"The responsibility for the rest of the trial lies with the judiciary. We hope exemplary punishment will be ensured within the shortest possible time," he told a press briefing at the home ministry.
Talking to reporters at the Secretariat earlier in the day, the law minister also said he has instructed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner to submit the investigation report in this case within one week.
Considering the gravity of the incident, he said failure to set an example through the trial over the rape and brutal murder of Ramisa in the capital's Pallabi area would send a "wrong message" to society.
On Tuesday morning (19 May), police recovered Ramisa's dismembered body from a rented flat on the third floor of a building in Section 11 of the Pallabi area in Mirpur-11.
Authorities said the child's head had been severed after the killing and was later found inside a bathroom, while the main body was recovered from beneath a bed.
The main accused, Sohel Rana, managed to flee at that time with help from his wife, Swapna Khatun. However, he was arrested by police in the Fatullah area of Narayanganj on Tuesday evening.
Rana gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court yesterday (20 May), admitting to the rape and murder of the eight-year-old.
In the same case, Swapna has also been sent to jail.
