Third Bangladesh AI Olympiad national round held at BUBT
The Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) today hosted the national round of the Third Bangladesh AI Olympiad 2026, drawing hundreds of students from across the country.
Participants from Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and beyond competed in a day-long contest centred on programming, mathematical logic, and artificial intelligence (AI) challenges.
The event commenced at 8:00am with participant registration, followed by two competition tracks: the AI Quiz and the AI Coding Challenge. The coding challenge ran from 9:00am to 11:10am, while the quiz was held from 9:00am to 9:45am. After the quiz, Saiful Islam, AI Engineer at Jadu PC, conducted a session on low-cost computing solutions. Munir Hasan, President of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) and founding member of MillionX Bangladesh, later delivered a special lecture on the 'TenX Mindset', urging the next generation to expand their intellectual horizons. The BUBT Cultural Club also staged a cultural programme.
A question-and-answer session began at 12:30pm, with participants engaging a panel on various aspects of AI. The panel featured Asif Iqbal, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at Chattogram Independent University (CIU); Rakibul Hasan, Chief Technical Officer at Link3 Technologies; Shaiful Islam, Founder and CEO of Iconic; Mamunur Rauf, Head of Growth at Reve Chat; and Motasim Billah Mridul, Tech Lead at Connected Agents.
The closing and award ceremony recognised 14 winners in the AI Quiz and 15 in the AI Coding Challenge. Labib Shahriar of Homna Adarsha High School was named 'best of the best' in the coding challenge, receiving a trophy and a three-in-one Jadu PC. Sayed Mohammad Rafan of Cantonment English School and College, Chattogram, secured the 'best of the best' award in the quiz category, winning a trophy and a Jadu PC. Nuzhat Binte Nazim of Ideal School and College received the best female participant award in the coding challenge and was awarded a Jadu PC. All winners received medals, t-shirts, and certificates.
BUBT Vice Chancellor ABM Shawkat Ali attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Special guests included Munshi Mahbubur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Muhammad Aminur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Md Ahsan Habib, Chairman of the CSE Department and Dean of the BUBT Research Graduate School, chaired the event.
In his address, Ali stated, "Artificial intelligence is no longer a dream of the future—it is our present reality. These talented students will shape Bangladesh's technological future." He announced a full tuition waiver for Olympiad winners seeking admission to BUBT. Habib noted that the competition aims to inspire a lifelong passion for technology and innovation. Winners will attend a national camp from 18–20 May, from which the final Bangladesh team for the Asia Pacific AI Olympiad and the International AI Olympiad in Kazakhstan this August will be selected.
BDOSN organised the event, with BUBT as platinum sponsor and host, and Reve Chat as powered-by partner. Brain Station 23 was gold sponsor; MillionX Bangladesh and Creative IT were silver sponsors; and Bitna was bronze sponsor. The Institute of Information Technology (IIT), University of Dhaka, served as knowledge partner. Deepto TV was TV partner, while Kishor Alo and BigganChinta were magazine partners. Other partners included the Bangladesh Association for Advancement of Science (SPSB), Rokomari.com, and Jadu PC.
