Ensure proper use of public money: Mirza Fakhrul
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir says public welfare is the main objective of the government's development activities,
LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (14 May) asked the authorities concerned to implement the ongoing development projects under the Local Government Division (LGD) in a speedy, cost-effective and people-friendly manner.
He gave the directive while addressing a review meeting on the progress of different ongoing development projects being implemented under the initiatives of the LGD and city corporations.
LGD Secretary Shahidul Hasan chaired the meeting held at the conference room of the LGRD ministry at the Secretariat here as the chief guest, reads a press release.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said public welfare is the main objective of the government's development activities, and all concerned must attach the highest importance to ensuring that not a single penny of public money is wasted.
He said every development project is undertaken for the welfare of the people and implemented with public money
"So, transparency, accountability and punctuality must be ensured in project implementation," he said, adding that project costs must be kept at a reasonable level.
The minister said that while development activities enhance the image of the government, any irregularity or negligence could tarnish the reputation of the entire ministry.
He urged the officials concerned and project directors to become more responsible in carrying out their duties.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also stressed the need for adopting modern and sustainable planning to improve the quality of public services alongside completing the development projects within the stipulated timeframe.
Detailed discussions were held at the meeting on the implementation progress of the ongoing projects, expenditure management and future work plans.
Senior ministry officials, representatives from different city corporations and project directors were present.
