At least 15 injured in violence between rival groups
A BNP activist was killed and at least 15 others were injured in a clash between two factions of the party over local dominance in Madhabpur village of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah today (23 April).
The deceased was identified as Mohon Sheikh, 65, of the village.
Locals said BNP activists Sher Ali Matabbar and Mashiur Rahman Matabbar had long been at loggerheads over control in the area.
Following the dispute, supporters of the two groups got into an altercation this morning, said Humayun Kabir Molla, officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station.
At one stage, they attacked each other with sharp weapons, leaving Mohon dead and at least 15 others injured, he said.
Several houses were also vandalised during the clash.
