Iran ready to make enemies 'taste the bitterness of new defeats': Supreme leader

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that the country's military is prepared to inflict fresh defeats on its adversaries, marking Army Day with a strongly worded message, reports Al Jazeera.
In a post shared via Telegram, Khamenei said the Iranian army "has exposed their weakness and humiliation to the world," adding that "its drones strike the American and Zionist criminals like lightning."
"Its brave navy is ready to make the enemies taste the bitterness of new defeats," he warned.
However, the message did not mention the Strait of Hormuz or ongoing Iran-US negotiations.
Khamenei framed the current conflict as part of a longer struggle, linking it to the Iranian Revolution and subsequent wars. He said the army "has stood in its rightful place" since the revolution, describing it as "truly the son of the nation" that "comes from the hearts of the people."
He also paid tribute to his predecessor and father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed earlier this year, crediting him with strengthening the armed forces over decades.
Khamenei, who assumed leadership in early March, has not appeared in public since taking office.
Concluding his message, he expressed condolences to families of those killed in what he described as "the war imposed by the United States and the Zionist regime against the great nation of Iran."
