Sick crow ‘seeks’ treatment at Banshkhali veterinary hospital
Noticing its unusual behaviour, veterinarians caught the bird for an examination.
In a rare and heart-warming incident, a sick crow reportedly approached doctors for treatment at the Upazila Livestock and Veterinary Hospital in Banshkhali, Chattogram, yesterday (15 April).
The incident occurred around 10am when the bird was seen hovering near the hospital entrance, making distressed sounds and moving towards the medical staff.
Noticing its unusual behaviour, veterinarians caught the bird for an examination. Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Sapan Nandi and his team discovered that the crow was suffering from avian pox, with visible lesions and pustules across its body. Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Sapan Nandi and other officials initiated treatment following the diagnosis.
The medical team immediately initiated treatment. Veterinary surgeon Dr Julkarnaine Shawon told The Business Standard, "I noticed the crow pacing near the door as I entered the hospital. It kept cawing and approached me. Upon examination, we identified the pox infection and started treatment right away."
After receiving initial care, the bird was released but chose to remain within the hospital premises. In the afternoon, it was given further medication, and by evening, the staff provided it with food, including an egg.
"Since the crow is staying nearby, we will continue its treatment in phases. It is currently under our observation," he added.
