The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed two separate cases against Munshi Sajjad Hossain, administrative officer of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), and his wife Farjana Hossain, as they have not submitted their asset information.

Ferdous Rahman, deputy assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed both the cases at the ACC integrated district office of Dhaka-1 on Thursday. ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

According to ACC sources, the anti-graft body is investigating allegations of amassing illegal wealth against Munshi Sajjad.

As part of the enquiry, the ACC served a notice asking him to submit the details of all assets including movable and immovable properties, liabilities, sources and ways of income and people dependent on them.

The notice was served on 12 November last year, according to sub-section 1 under section 26 of the ACC Act 2004.

He was asked to submit the wealth statements within the next 21 working days after receiving the notice. On December 12, he submitted an application to extend the time and the ACC extended the deadline up to January 19, this year.

However, he did not submit the statement on time.

ACC further said, his wife Farjana Hossain also failed to submit her wealth statement.

As both of them failed to submit their wealth statements on time, they have been sued under sub-section 2 under section 26 of the ACC Act 2004.
