Lalkuthi’s heritage will be restored - DSCC Mayor

Northbrook Hall (Lalkuthi) is a part of Dhaka's heritage and it will be restored, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

The mayor made the comment during a discussion with the journalists on Wednesday afternoon after inspecting Lalkuthi in Ward No.43.

"We have already started reconstruction of Northbrook Hall (Lalkuthi); and today's visit is a part of the project" he added.

He further said, "The Lalkuthi is a beautiful architectural establishment, and it will be that way again. We will talk about moving the terminal and make Lalkuthi visible from the river; we also have plans to arrange various programs here."

"The invasive construction will also be removed from the site to bring back the beauty of Lalkuthi" he added.

On the question of what measures have been taken on battery-run rickshaws that are still running on the streets after the ban, the mayor said "the registration process is ongoing and we have banned these motor/battery-run vehicles."

"If the owners of these vehicles do not withdraw them from the streets, we will decide on a date and take legal steps through mobile courts" he added.

Before the Lalkuthi visit the Mayor visited the 2.42 acre area in Ward No. 7, its roads, market and Maniknagar Model High School which was allocated to the city corporation by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

Mayor Taposh also visited Ward No. 49's City Corporation Model High School and the corporation's 10-storey cleaner building construction site.
