Probe committee formed over Daulatdia ferry accident
The committee will determine the actual cause of the incident and identify those responsible for the tragic accident.
The Ministry of Shipping has formed a six-member investigation committee to probe into the incident in which a passenger bus fell into the Padma River while boarding a ferry at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat in Rajbari, resulting in many casualties.
Rescue operations in Daulatdia have been suspended for the night. The operation will resume at 8am tomorrow, the Fire Service said.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry, Md. Muhidul Islam is the convener of the committee, and other members are representatives of the Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari, River Police, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, reads a shipping ministry press release.
The committee has been tasked to submit report within the next three working days.
The committee may co-opt additional members if necessary.
Based on the findings of the report, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible, and necessary measures will be adopted to prevent such incidents in the future.
The bodies of 26 people have been recovered after a bus carrying at least 40 people plunged into the Padma River yesterday (25 March). While 23 bodies have been recovered from inside the bus by the fire service, two by locals and one body was recovered by navy divers.
A total of eight people have been rescued alive, and eight more people are still missing.
