Former textiles and jute minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui has appealed to the High Court seeking bail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Bogura.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Sahidul Karim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin said today that the appeal is scheduled to be heard at a later date.

Advocate Subrata Kumar Kundu stood for Latif Siddiqui while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.

Khurshid said a High Court bench had issued a rule on Latif Siddiqui's bail on July 7 this year. "On August 22, the rule was rejected. Latif then appealed again to the High Court seeking bail."

According to the case statement, on October 27, 2017, Aminul Islam, assistant director of the ACC's Bogura district office, filed a case against two people, including Latif Siddiqui, for selling nearly two-and-a-half acres of land without a tender, alleging that this had resulted in a financial loss of Tk40.70 lakh.

The other accused is Jahanara Rashid, wife of late Harun-ur-Rashid of Katnar Para area of Bogura city.

On June 20 this year, Latif Siddiqui appeared in a Bogura court to appeal for bail. The bail, however, was not granted.
